Cheyenne, Reydon, Hammon, Durham: deep basin country where we have bought repeatedly and publish our own county situation report.
Roger Mills County is one of Berlin's most active counties, for research, for OCC work, and for our own purchases.
Read our Roger Mills County situation report in The Oil Scout for our current view of the county's activity. Then send us your legal description, and we will tell you what your specific section is worth and why.
Roger Mills has 11 rigs running, tied with Grady for the most of any county in Oklahoma, and 38 permits approved in the last ninety days, the most in the state. Against that, only 2,283 wells are producing here. It is one of the most intensively developed counties in Oklahoma and one of the least written about.
Mewbourne Oil is the reason. Of the 106 wells that first produced in Roger Mills since January 2024, Mewbourne drilled 38. Crawley Petroleum drilled 19, Upland Operating 13 and Charter Oak 11. Mewbourne is a private company that does not issue press releases, which is a large part of why a county this active generates no headlines.
That silence has a direct financial consequence for you. Offers follow news coverage, and there is none here. An offer computed as a multiple of your last twelve months of royalty income cannot see 38 permits, and it cannot see a rig. On acreage in active development, that arithmetic prices the wrong asset entirely.
Fall 2026 update: Nothing has slowed down. Roger Mills led Oklahoma in drilling permits over the twelve months through August 2026 and stayed tied for the most rigs of any county in the state, with Mewbourne still carrying most of the program and western Oklahoma generally drawing rigs its way. Oklahoma also logged its busiest quarter of upstream deal-making in three years during 2026, so if a payor name on your check changes, that is the reason. The arithmetic above has not changed: a checks-only multiple still cannot see this county's drilling.
Two things to ask any buyer, us included: the remaining undrilled locations beneath your tract with the probability assigned to each, and the price deck used. If they will not break those out, they are pricing your check rather than your minerals.
We wrote about why this county goes unnoticed in The Cherokee Nobody Is Writing About.

New wells turned to sales in the county.
County totals. Source: Enverus, as of 2026-10-02. Rigs are currently active; permits are those approved in the last 90 days; completions are wells reporting first production in the last 90 days, which lags by state. A zero does not mean nothing is happening, only that nothing was reported in that window. Activity like this is exactly what moves mineral value. If it is happening near you, find out what your interest is worth before you take anyone's offer.
Roger Mills ties Ellis for the most Cherokee drilling in Oklahoma, roughly 127 wells since 2020 from Mewbourne, Crawley, Upland, Citizen and SandRidge.
